Introduction
Safari is a word long associated with Africa that to me conjures up thoughts of expeditions and journey’s.
KZN is the province of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa, and is a perfect setting for a safari.
Within the province you can be surrounded by mountains, walk through savannah and ancient forest or relax on pristine white sand beaches. There is an abundance of game that roams freely in protected areas. If you are lucky you may encounter one of, if not all of, the ‘Big 5’ which are, Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo. Even if you don’t have the luck of seeing these you will see a wealth of wildlife from Dung Beetles to Bearded Vultures. The big game is not only to be found on land; whales, sharks, dolphins and turtles are just off shore. If you glance into the sky, whilst travelling or visiting a protected area, you will probably be rewarded with the sight of some of the areas stunning birdlife. The province is also steeped in culture and history stemming from the Zulu people who you will meet on your journey.
This site has been produced to encourage travel and make it a real possibility for you the reader to go on safari. The idea has evolved from twelve years of travel to the province and we aim to pass on our knowledge and experiences to you. If you are on a weeks holiday or a gap year, if you are a student or a family of four, and especially if you are on a budget.
SafariKZN is not a travel agent and all information is given free of charge. I have travelled throughout the province covering thousands of kilometres and have visited over 50 protected areas. I have walked in the inspiring Drakensberg Mountains and the Zululand wilderness. I have seen many animals and birds from both the comfort of a vehicle and on foot. I have also met and made friends with many people on my visits.
